Trench safety gets renewed focus from OSHA

Job sites throughout Kentucky often require excavation and working in trenches. Federal safety officials want more attention paid to worker safety after a spike in nationwide numbers for trench deaths: Fatalities doubled in fiscal year 2016. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says that adequate precautions could prevent deaths.

Beryllium standards enforcement is postponed

Workers in Kentucky who work with or near beryllium may be interested know that the beryllium standards issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will not be enforced until May 1, 2018. According to the memo issued by the agency, the enforcement is being delayed for 60 days in order to allow more time for settlement negotiations for lawsuits to come to conclusion. The lawsuits pertain to how the beryllium standards affect the general industry.

Wearing a helmet can reduce risk of spine injuries

Many Kentucky residents have grown up hearing that wearing a helmet could save their lives by protecting their heads from severe trauma in the event a motorcycle accident occurs. A recent study showed that using a helmet could also reduce the risk of injury to the cervical vertebrae.
